Could this work or am I totally crazy for trying?(kinda long and complicated) PLEASE HELP!?

Every child needs a hero and you should be the little boy's hero. Maybe you and your ex could get counseling to see if you could fix the problems in the relationship and heal from the hurt you each put each other through (as no one is innocent). If you and your ex get back together you can then provide the stable home and unconditional love for the boy that he's never experienced before. If you can't be with your ex, still try to be a mentor for the boy as he needs someone in his corner in this mess.
