Longest lasting make / Least problematic car in the long run?

Might have to get a new car soon....I am but a VERY poor student and I need to know what used car I can buy that will last me the longest. So far the most agreeable answer I've gotten is Honda Accord, circa 1990. A couple friends have had them with 300k/400k + miles. In second is the Nissan Maxima, also circa 1990. A friend of mine reported that her brother drove it an estimated 700k before it croaked...don't know if true or not, nevertheless still want your best opinion!
