Are chocolate chip cookies common in Spain?

I'm going on exchange next year to Spain, and was trying to think of something "American" to bring them. Someone suggested to bring a bag of chocolate chips, because they are rare in Spain. Is this true? I would love to bring some bags of chocolate chips and make chocolate chip cookies. Would this be something "uniquely American" to a Spaniard?
