USB ports work, but can't use USB devices!?

Copying files from your friend's computer is not a good idea unless it is the same make and model as your own. I would think that your best option now is to repair your Windows installation with the disc that came with your computer. If you don't have the disc see if you can download the correct drivers from the manufactures web site.
